MY SPECIALTIES

ANXIETY

Anxiety disorder are characterised by excessive fear and worry and related behavioural symptoms such as avoiding and taking precautions. Symptoms can be severe enough to result in significant distress and/or difficulties in functioning. For example social anxiety which makes it difficult to have relationships and functioning at school or work.

PHOBIAS

Phobias aren’t just extreme fears, they’re irrational fears. This means that the anxious feelings are larger than the true danger that the object or situation poses.

For example, if you fear heights, you might feel extreme anxiety or panic if you go above the 10th floor of an office building. This would be an irrational fear, as the building would have multiple security measures in place to keep you safe.

DEPRESSION

Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life.  During a depressive episode, the person experiences depressed mood (feeling sad, irritable, empty) or a loss of pleasure or interest in activities, for most of the day, nearly every day, for

at least two weeks. Several other symptoms are

also present, which may include poor concentration, feelings of excessive guilt or low self-worth, hopelessness about the future, thoughts about dying or suicide, disrupted sleep, changes in appetite or weight, and feeling especially tired or low in energy.

OCD-OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE
DISORDER

Obsessions are thoughts, images, or impulses that occur over and over again and feel outside of the person’s control. Individuals with OCD do not want

to have these thoughts and find them disturbing.

Compulsions are repetitive behaviors or thoughts that a person uses to neutralize or counteract the obsession, essentially to try and make their obsessions go away.

PARENTING DIFFICULTIES

Being a parent can be challenging, especially when

a child faces difficulties. It can be tough to navigate your child's emotions and your own. Thoughts about parenthood may consume a lot of your time, leading to worry and potentially impacting your self esteem as a parent.

GAD-GENERAL ANXIETY DISORDER

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is more than just the worries most people will experience on occasion.

GAD is a type of anxiety disorder involving excessive worry and tension even when there’s nothing to provoke it.

PANIC DISORDER

Panic disorder symptoms are mostly centered around panic attacks. Symptoms of a panic attack often include a pounding or racing heart, sweatiness, and dizziness. Your hands may tingle or feel numb, causing you to genuinely believe you’re having a heart attack or stroke.

A panic attack isn’t dangerous, but it can be frightening. It can make you feel like you’re out of control.

TRAUMA & PTSD

PTSD may develop following exposure to an extremely threatening or horrific event or series of events. It is characterised by all of the following:

1) re-experiencing the traumatic event or events in the present (intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares).

2) avoidance of thoughts and memories of the event(s), or avoidance of activities, situations, or people reminiscent of the event(s)

3) persistent perceptions of heightened current threat.

These symptoms persist for at least several weeks and cause significant impairment in functioning.

STRESS & BURNOUT

Stress is a natural response to everyday or extraordinary stressors. Sometimes, it can linger for a while and become chronic. This may lead to burnout, but not always.

When you’re exposed to persistent stressors, you may experience chronic stress. Chronic stress refers to the stress response being activated for a long time or in a recurring way.

RELATIONAL DIFFICULTIES

Relationships are hard for everyone but some individuals may experience a consistent pattern of difficulties across all their connections. This may stem from excessive overthinking, low self-esteem, or struggles with emotional regulation. Such issues can result in distress and create problems in various areas of life, including work, friendships, family dynamics, and romantic relationships.
